Net to Gross Calculator UK 2026/27 - Find Gross Salary

Enter the net amount you want to receive, choose whether that amount is monthly or annual, and select the tax year. The calculator converts monthly targets into an annual figure, then searches for the gross salary that produces that net result after Income Tax and National Insurance.

It does this by repeatedly estimating take-home pay at different gross salaries and narrowing in on the closest match. The result is a gross salary estimate and a breakdown of the Income Tax and National Insurance that would be deducted.

The calculator includes UK Income Tax bands and Class 1 National Insurance thresholds for the selected tax year, along with a standard personal allowance. This gives a realistic baseline for most PAYE employees.

It does not include student loan repayments, pension contributions, salary sacrifice arrangements, or taxable benefits. If any of those apply, you may need a higher gross salary than shown.

Results assume England/Wales/NI tax bands and a standard tax code. The calculator looks for a gross salary within about £1 of your target net. Figures are rounded to the nearest penny internally and displayed as rounded currency values.

If your pay fluctuates during the year or you receive large one-off bonuses, treat the result as a guide and compare it against your payslips or a full take-home calculation.

Example 1: A target net of £2,000 per month (£24,000 per year) requires a gross salary of about £28,445, with roughly £3,175 Income Tax and £1,270 National Insurance.

Example 2: A £35,000 annual net target needs a gross salary around £43,723, with approximately £6,231 Income Tax and £2,492 National Insurance.

Example 3: A £3,000 monthly net target (£36,000 annually) requires a gross salary near £45,112, with Income Tax about £6,508 and National Insurance about £2,603.
